ーーAbout “Hagiwara Woodworks LLC“
The company produces a variety of woodworking products using techniques inherited from the late Edo period and adapting them to the needs of the times. The company has Proposed design that was ahead of its time in the movement to westernize lifestyles.
They are currently focusing on handmade work, creating custom-made furniture and products. Among the “techniques” handed down from generation to generation, the company specializes in molded plywood technology.
Uses mostly Akita lumber and insists on creating durable and long-lasting pieces.
ーーWhat is Akita Sugi (Cedar)?
Akita has been a treasure trove of Akita cedar since ancient times, along with Aomori hiba (Aomori Prefecture) and Kiso hinoki (Nagano Prefecture), the three most beautiful forests in Japan.
It is soft and easy to work, and is often processed into square timbers and boards for interior finishing. It is also used for barrels and vats because of its fragrance.
