Fujita Reiko “Kitade Kiln Ceramics”

ーーProfile

She worked in a company, but after being impressed by the pottery of Seichi Murakami that she saw by chance, she developed an interest in ceramics.

From 1980, she apprenticed under Seichi Murakami at Okubo Kiln in Miyagi Prefecture for about six years. After her training, she gained some skills and knowledge and returned to Akita. Even while continuing her company job, she pursued pottery in a public circle. She truly realized her love for clay and ceramics.

In 2007, she fulfilled her dream by establishing her workshop, “Kitate Kiln Pottery Studio.” She continues to create functional beauty in her pottery, valuing the natural environment of Akita.

ーーWhat is Kitade Kiln Ceramics?

The original name came from the place where the workshop is located, “Shimo(Southern)kitade” in Akita City and the name of the neighboring place, “Kami(Northern)kitade” were combined to resulting “Kitate”

The ceramics produced aim simple vessels for daily use while respecting Akita’s climate. Also produces original products designed in Akita’s motif, for example Kantou Festival Ceramic, the Sea of Oga mug.
